Father

Father

By Abigail Bethune

Your eyes pierce through me, like the knife you are.

Dull, but deadly, from my well you draw.

I see red, I feel blue,

I see everyone but you.

Yet still, a girl needs a man to look up to.

Oh Father, How loving is your hate.

I am as strong as your hate...

For me?

I am as happy as a pup!

For every lion shall lose a cub.

I will not cry,

I will not cry!

For you have dug your grave so deep.

And I will rejoice,

And I will give thanks

I will sing.

For karma is a beautiful thing.

...I'll forgive you

Because that was what I was taught,

By the lady who nurtured my heart

and the man who fathered my soul.

Because you will not keep me from going home.
